You are to analyze ALL 5 of the case studies using ethical theories: Utilitarianism.

Make sure you provide a paragraph that accurately describes the theory you will be using.

Make sure you describe the case study before you apply the theory.

Provide a general assessment of the paper, in other words: be sure that you have a conclusion where you summarize your paper.

Avoid using phrases like: “In my opinion,” “I believe,” “Ethics is difficult and not certain, so it is hard to tell if this ethical theory is right or not.” This is an ETHICS course, so don’t do or say anything in your ETHICS PAPER that would undermine ethics as a discipline. Further, you are making an ARGUMENT in this paper, as such there is no room for “personal opinions” or “feelings.” Just turn those opinions and feelings into statements of fact.

Writing Assignment #4 White Paper for an External Audience Summary of the Assignment:

Writing Assignment #4 White Paper for an External Audience Summary of the Assignment:

  • Task: In this paper, you will write a document that provides information that an external audience can use to inform a decision. We have read various white papers in the class this semester. White papers can be any one of the following types: o technical papers o business benefit papers o advocacy papers o hybrid technical/business papers The CANRIGHT document that is provided in the class in LEO describes all four of these types of white papers. • Length: 1200-1600 words • Graphics: at least three graphics, two of which have to be original • Format in Citing and Listing Sources: APA • Number and Sources: at least five sources, at least one of which has to be obtained through OneSearch Brief Description of the White Paper: In preparing for this assignment, you will want to review the following video: “White Papers: An Introduction to the Genre and Its Expectations,” from the Purdue OWL You may take any of the following approaches: • a general white paper to an external audience – written to individuals in a particular industry or field of study, but not an organization you are a part of. The white paper could address a problem you are attempting to solve in the organization or to inform an external audience about a relevant trend. • a white paper promoting a new product or service to potential customers. This is an example of a white paper to an external audience, but it features different rhetorical considerations than the typical white paper written to an external audience does. Both options are discussed in the Purdue OWL video mentioned above. Please note: You will not be writing a white paper to your boss or to superiors in the company for which you work. That type of paper would be an internal white paper. If you take WRTG 394, you can write that type of paper. For WRTG 393, we ask for a white paper to an external audience. Strategies to Consider for the White Paper: Please follow these guidelines: • have a focused topic. Please see the sample white papers from previous students for examples of how previous topics have been developed for this paper. • write to a reasonably focused and identified audience o A white paper to an external audience can have a broad audience or a narrow audience. ▪ For example, if you do not work for a hair salon and you write a white paper promoting a new billing system for hair salons, the audience will probably be the various hair salons in your neighborhood. o A white paper that promotes a product or service to potential customers could have a fairly broad audience. ▪ For example, a white paper promoting a new taxi service in your neighborhood has, theoretically, all residents in the neighborhood as a potential audience. • integrate thorough research • do not directly tell the audience what action it should take. Rather, offer background information that the audience can use to make a decision. The Purdue OWL video mentions this principle. This is one reason the video refers to the white paper as a backgrounder report. Continue to the next page How to Organize the White Paper: Please include the following sections in your white paper: • Executive Summary • Introduction • Previous Approaches • New Findings • Conclusion • References In the Executive Summary, summarize your research and your purpose. The executive summary should be a stand-alone document. It should be written in such a way that a busy executive could read the executive summary and know exactly what the paper is about without reading the rest of the paper. In the Introduction, you lay the groundwork for your readers for the details that will be introduced in the white paper. If you need to define any terms, you will do so here. You might share an anecdote or illustration to describe why this topic is important. In the Previous Approaches section, you will describe the approaches or strategies that have been previously used or are currently used on the topic. For example, if your white paper is being written to advertise a new taxi service in your area, you might review what transportation services are provided now. You could show the challenges or problems that the current services involve. In this section of the white paper, your use of sources will be very important. You should integrate research to show that the problems you have identified exist. In the New Findings section, you present perhaps the most important information in the paper. In this section, you will describe the findings of your research and relate these findings to the purpose of your report. You will not only provide data and research, but you will also explain the data and research and why it is relevant to your report’s topic. For example, if your white paper is being written to advertise a new taxi service in your area, you might review what transportation services are provided now and show why the new taxi service fills a need that the current set of transportation services does not fill or solves a problem that the current set of transportation services does not solve. You will provide data and evidence for why the new taxi service has promise in solving the problems you have identified. In this section of the white paper, your use of sources will be very important as well. You should integrate research to show that the problems you have identified will be solved by your new approach. In the Conclusion section, you review what your research shows in light of the previous approaches used. You will not tell the audience what steps to take next. However, you will summarize what your findings articulate. In the References, you will list your sources that you cited in the paper. You will list them in APA format. Please note that the lectures on white papers that you have viewed and examples of white papers you may have read may not have used APA format. You will be using APA format in this assignment. You are required to have at least five sources for your paper. In addition, at least one of them is to have been acquired through UMGC Library OneSearch. Primary sources will be very beneficial for the paper. For example, if your white paper is being written to advertise a new taxi service in your area, you might interview some local residents about the problems they have with the current transportation services in the area. The information in such interviews would be persuasive research to integrate into your white paper. Length of the Paper: Your white paper should be 1200-1600 words in length. Again, you are required to use at least five sources, with at least one of them being acquired through UMGC Library OneSearch. Graphics: Your white paper should incorporate at least three graphics. Graphics can include tables, charts, or graphs showing some research findings. They can also be images that are relevant to the topic of the white paper. At least two of the graphics must be original. Original graphics can include photos taken by you or tables, charts, or graphs developed by you. To see examples of graphics used in white papers, see the Purdue OWL video, “White Papers: An Introduction to the Genre and Its Expectations,” at the 3:27 mark, at the 5:29 mark, at the 6:58 mark, at the 7:01 mark, at the 7:11 mark, at the 7:43 mark, and at the 7:58 mark. Due Date: Your instructor will notify you of the due date. You will write a first draft, your instructor will comment on the first draft, and you will submit a second draft using the comments as your guide.

Paper instructions:

Assessments are used for many different purposes in the K‐12 educational setting. For example, assessments are used during classroom instruction to measure students’ learning related to academic content, and different assessments are used to measure students’ overall cognitive, physical, or social‐emotional abilities. Regardless of the assessment type, there are specific terms that are often used related to assessments. It is often the responsibility of the special education teacher to explain assessment terminology to families.

Understanding the terminology used in the formal assessment of students who have or may have a disability is a vital first step for collaboration with families. Having such knowledge will assist families in understanding the uses and limitations of specified assessments. Teachers are then able to collaborate and consult with families in a productive manner to inform student‐based decision making.

Student assessment results from formal, standardized assessment tools are often statistically based and can be very difficult for families to understand.

Write a 500‐750 word article to post on the parent page of the school’s website explaining assessment methods and the basics of statistics used in formal adaptive behavior assessments. The article should be creative and accurately explain how to read and understand assessment results by including the following:

Purpose, definition, and two examples of adaptive behavior assessments

Definition of six specialized assessment terms both of content and statistical nature including an explanatory example of each used in formal adaptive behavior assessments

Explanation of at least two limitations of standardized assessments, such as bias in questionnaires, subjectivity, utility, psychometric support, etc.

Description of the consultative role of the special educator in helping parents/guardians understand the process of assessments and related terminology

Use easy‐to‐understand language and examples of assessment results with graphs, diagrams, and pictures as needed.

Support your findings with 2‐3 scholarly resources.

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

Assignment: Evaluation

Qualitative field research allows the researcher to collect descriptive data about experiences directly from individuals in face-to-face settings. When evaluating such complex issues as human attitudes, behaviors, and opinions, qualitative research can provide in-depth information and rich insights that numerical data simply cannot provide.

For this assignment please consider how you might apply qualitative field research methods to needs assessments in human and social services by answering these 3 questions.

3 Pages and 3 resources

(1).Explain how you would evaluate a program for your selected topic using qualitative field research methods. Topic is Child Welfare: Black Children in Foster Care

(2).Be specific and provide examples.

(3).Assume the proposed actions you suggested last week have taken place.

This is the proposed action that was taken from last week you can look at.

Most appropriate sampling method in this research is stratified sampling, while using this method I shall divide the population to subgroups of race, ethnicity, and economic activities to identify and classify those in need of foster services. I shall use different sampling techniques such as use of demographic data documented by different authorities in regards to population in an area, race and ethnicity as well as their social their economic status. So as to predict those families with children who are more susceptible or are in dare need of foster home services. According to (Child Welfare, 2017) child welfare organizations do have well maintained records of children in need of foster services and those already under foster services with their demographics and this does provide a good source of data / information needed for decision making. Use of interview at learning institution to African Americans children and their parents to evaluate if they need children foster services.

Assignment Description

What is an Annotated Webliography?

An annotated webliography is very similar to an annotated bibliography which you completed in Week 4 of this course. Instead of reviewing and analyzing books and articles, this assignment requires students to review websites pertaining to a particular topic. Each website description will follow a similar format as your annotated bibliography. Websites will be evaluated for content, accuracy, bias, relevance, and significance to your chosen topic.

There is a great deal of information available on the internet and you can do a lot of research from your computer. However, not everything on the web is acceptable for academic research. This assignment will help you evaluate sites that you find on the free web.

Before you start your paper, please make sure to read the UMGC Library guidelines for evaluating web resources to help determine whether the contents are of high quality and acceptable for use in a college-level history research paper: https://sites.umgc.edu/library/libhow /websiteevaluation_tutorial.cfm.

Assignment Instructions

For this assignment, you will search for five (5) websites that are acceptable for use in a college-level history research paper. UMGC library databases (for example JSTOR or other journal databases), Wikipedia, History.com or any other encyclopedia or wiki-type site like about.com are NOT acceptable, sites that require a subscription are additionally NOT acceptable. Write a paragraph for each website (five total approximately 200-250 words each) in which you describe the contents of each website in detail, and why you think the site is acceptable for use in an academic research paper, using the information you collected from your evaluation of the site.

Complete the following for your annotated webliography:

Provide a complete citation (as you would include it in your bibliography) for the site, including the URL and your date of access. Note that the required style for this class is Chicago Manual of Style.

For an example of what elements to include in your citation, go to https://sites.umgc.edu/library/libhow/chicago_examples.cfm and click on Web Sites. You can also click on Course Resources, click on Webliography, and find examples of how to properly cite websites using the Chicago Manual of Style.

Use the evaluation criteria provided by UMGC Information and Library Services https://www.umgc.edu/current-students/learning-resources/writing-center/writing-resources/evaluating-sources.cfm to determine if the site is appropriate for college-level academic research (i.e. a college-level history research paper).

Additionally, some websites are not considered suitable for college-level research, please find a list of the most common websites that are unacceptable for college-level work:

LIST OF UNACCEPTABLE WEB RESOURCES: AVOID THESE WEB SITES For Your Webliography and For Discussion.

For profit, commercialized sites that sell advertisements;

Private web resources were you can find nothing substantive about the author or the political philosophy or the private funding source;

The History Channel or any A&E Television material;

History.com or the Independence Hall Association (for profit)

Encyclopedia.com: it is a commercialized site that “uses” information from accredited sources. Go to the UMGC Library and ask the Librarian to help you find the relevant Oxford Companion to Historyseries.

Britannica.com: See above. It sells ads and “uses” information from other sources.

About.com: not professional; commercialized;

History.org: a commercialized site;

HistoryNet.com: sells magazines;

YouTube, “home-made videos.” If the video comes from a scholarly source, it is acceptable.

Alpha History.

Sometimes people confuse a web address with being the same as a website. This is not the case. Articles from journals or websites are NOT websites. Make sure you are clear as to what a website is. For example, msn.com, yahoo.com, or bbc.com are websites. Any article contained within them are not websites.
