Having health insurance has been the major predictor of a patient’s access to health care services. In 2013, some 50
million citizens were not covered by any health insurance plan. The PPACA (Affordable Care Act) addresses this issue of
“access” by requiring American citizens to document that they have health insurance (the individual mandate). Do you think
that this new requirement will work to reduce or eliminate the large uninsured population across the nation? If not, what
other health policy initiatives would improve “access” better?
