Laboratory Techniques

Brief:

Part 1

Basically answer questions on sheet provided. Includes a graph to plot from results provided too.

Demonstrate your ability to work competently in the biological science laboratory. Your basic skills in the lab will be tested including how to prepare solutions safely, using standard measuring equipment, carry out complex molecular biological techniques.

All text should be fully justified, size 12 Arial font, with 1.5 line spacing, and normal margins. The report should contain page numbers and a header indicating your name, the module code and the assignment title. You must include a completed assignment submission cover sheet. Module title: Cell Biology

Assignment Title: Investigating Catechol Oxidase Activity in Fruits and Vegetables

Rationale:

Enzyme action in cells is an essential part of life. Here you will undertake a simple investigation to determine enzyme levels in different fruits and vegetables.

Brief:

You will carry out an experiment to determine the activity of the enzyme catechol in different fruits and vegetables. This will be done under supervision in the laboratory on 25th July 2013. The protocol is provided with this brief. You will then write a report of the experiment in standard form (title, introduction, method, results, conclusions and discussion) where you analyse and discuss the data obtained. (You can submit the protocol as method without re-writing it.) You will be expected to use your theoretical knowledge and research to complete the discussion. (Word count for conclusions and discussion “ approx. 1000 words.)
