Work type:         Research paper

Format:                APA

Pages:   3 pages ( 825 words, Double spaced

Academic level:                Undergrad. (yrs 1-2)

Discipline:            Business Studies

Title:      Theory covered in this class

Number of sources:        1

Paper instructions:

Instructions:

Students, individually or in pairs, need to submit a written

3-4-page report focuses on a particular theory covered in this class. If you

prefer to work with a classmate, email me by Apr. 7th providing his/her name

and make sure both of you are on the same page, otherwise, I assume you work

individually and will not accept pair work claimed afterwards).

In the first 1-2 pages of the report, you will provide a

summary of the theory. This section of the paper should identify the phenomenon

the theory seeks to explain, the assumptions underlying the theory, and define

at least one key term/concept. Cite your sources, even if you are using the

textbook, e.g., “(Griffin et al., 2018)”, and then list the sources

in the references page (see the APA style resources towards the end of the

document).

In the final 2-3 pages, you must submit a review of a

published academic journal article that reports original research on the

theory. The article (peer-reviewed) should not simply summarize the theory, but

should present original research (meaning the article reports findings of a

study conducted using at least one research method corresponding to the

objective/interpretive approach of the theory (e.g., survey, experiment,

interviews, content analysis, focus groups, ethnography, textual analysis, case

study, or discourse analysis); if you are in doubt about the appropriateness of

the article, please just ask, or you could choose one from the list of articles

provided on Western Online. Your review of the article should describe (NOT

DIRECTLY QUOTE) the primary research questions explored and/or hypotheses

tested which are directly relevant to the theory, and summarize the findings

relevant to those research questions or hypotheses. The review should also

briefly discuss how the findings reported in the research article relate to the

theory (e.g., did findings support the theory? challenged the theory? or

extended the theory? improved understanding of any concept/proposition of the

theory? etc.).

■ Paper

should strive for APA format with proper in-text citations and references page.

Check the resources towards the end of the document for APA style tips.

Providing proper in-text citations after you paraphrased the words of the

original sources, e.g., “(Smith & McDowell, 2015)”, and after

every sentence you write expressing ideas not originally yours, is the key to

prevent unintentional plagiarism. Keep direct quotations at a very minimum. If

you have to use a direct quotation, insert quotation marks and provide in-text citations

with page number of the quoted words after the quoted part, in addition to

providing corresponding citation in the references. APA has specific

requirements on the number of words you can directly quote from a source before

you have to use a standalone block format with specific indentation for the

quoted section in addition to providing in-text citation with page number

according to the manual (see

https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting and

style_guide/in_text_citations_the_basics.html).

Even though Orsino won’t admit it to himself, others around him can see that his love for Olivia is not as constant as he claims. Feste teases Orsino for his inconstancy, saying, “the tailor make thy doublet of changeable taffeta, for they mind is a very opal” (2.4.80-83).
