Anti-Bias Education:
- An anti-bias approach to early childhood teaching and learning is providing an educational environment that encourages and accepts diversity, different values, principles, and beliefs equally. Educators are responsible for teaching children that they are all unique individuals who deserve to be mutually respected and accepted using the four anti-bias education goals which are identity, diversity, justice, and activism (Derman-Sparks et al., 2020).
- In a developmentally appropriate early childhood classroom, how do these theories interact? Show how teachers can use the anti-bias framework in combination with 2 other theories in classroom activities.
- Teachers can include a library of diverse books with characters that look like or represent the children in the classroom and situations that they can relate to. These books will be able to help children identify their race, family dynamic, culture, home language, etc.
Another resource teachers can include is manipulatives. Manipulatives will allow children to be exposed to and play with toys with many differences such as disabilities, occupations, and skin colors.

Thus far, we have studied some foundational principles of anti-bias learning in Early Childhood Education coupled with other theories about early teaching and learning: ecological systems theory, anti-bias education, place-based, play-based, and inquiry-based learning. Your understanding of these theories will be essential to designing and implementing high quality, anti-bias learning experiences for young children that are engaging and developmentally appropriate. This project will support you in synthesizing what you have learned during the first module so that you can put these theories into practice throughout the rest of our course.
- Prompts: Address all of four these prompts. Make connections to a minimum of 3 course readings in your explanations to show how you are using the theory to inform your approach to teaching. Address the prompts:
