Chapter 4: Design

Exercises

Find at least two examples (good and bad) of the following document design categories, and discuss the reasons why one is more effective than the other. You can look for sample documents published on the web, or at the websites themselves (they are PTC projects, too). You may not find all of the design elements listed for each category, but try to find as many as you can. And as you think about the

reasons for your opinions (good/bad) of the designs you find, keep in

mind audience and purpose.

  • Shaping the Page. Margins, White Space (or lack thereof),

According to U.S. News and World Report https://www.usnews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-engineering-schools/university-of-south-florida-main-campus-02048 , the Engineering department at the University of South Florida (USF) has over three

times the amount of male students (76%) than it does female students (24%). Of the 1,126 students, 856 students are male and 270 students are female. In order to increase the diversity at USF, the alumni and deans of the College of Engineering have asked for proposals on how to increase the female engineering population within their college. Your assignment is to use this data as well as other information from the links provided below and your own research on the topic in order to create a proposal that accurately does the following:

  • Identifies and contextualizes the problem for the audience
  • Attempts to find a solution to the issue
  • Incorporates visual aids to more vividly depict data
  • Persuades your audience that this solution would work and

supports your claim(s) with evidence

Explain the following: Why would my proposed solution work to solve this issue? What data does the audience need to understand my argument? How can this data be best displayed through visual aids? How can I ethically present the data to my audience?

PROMPT:

Beyond what has already been shared in your application, what do you believe makes you stand out as a strong candidate for admissions to the University of California?

I went to Nepal. One day I saw a newspaper passage said Nepal is one of the poorest countries but also one of the happiest countries of the world. I am really attracted by this description. I went there for two months and didn’t book any hotels. I also didn’t take much money. I wanted to experience the life of homeless and poor. The first 3 days after arriving there, I lived on the street for 4 nights. Everyone even the dogs are so big from my view from the ground. I feel the fear, hopeless which made me found a new world. One day afternoon, a girl gave me bread and asked if I need any help. She found that I am a foreigner and very curious about what I was doing. I told her my story and she invited me to her house. The house is really small no more than 300ft but there are four people in their home. People there is passionate, love their life but I can also feel their worry. The 13-year-old daughter dreams to study medicine in us universities but their monthly income is less than 100 dollar . I think help others is like a quote said “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” I didn’t give them money. I spent two months there to teach the girl called Masha biology science. And the most important and basic thing is the financial support. My father is a businessman and I learned a lot from him. The Nepal father is a worker for a climbing institution. His job is to guide visitors to climb Mount Everest. He is very hard working but earned so little. I thought for a lot of nights and I think he should make his own business. I pursued him to combine climbing and experiencing live in their house together which not only can make money but also help their families make more friends which can broaden their minds and also help their children learn more. After days’ talking, he listened to me. I use my network to broadcast this experience. And also made a lot of attracting advertisements to put on the walls. After one month effort, his small business went on the way and made quadruple money than before. Although I can’t change the whole environment of their country, I want to try my best to help the one I met. A big country is made of thousands of small families.

(Can you please help me do some research about why are they so poor and the society environment and the common features of poor countries? And more business solutions? Please make this essay more professional at humanity science, business and have more professional research sentences and also full of life details. Please see the good examples of this prompt. Thank you!)

Essay

  1. Discuss some of the ways in which indigenous Australians managed the land before 1788. Was the white settler response generally curious or generally arrogant?

Assessment Criteria

1) Addressing the question

You must answer the question actually asked; this means that your introduction, your body paragraphs and your conclusion should be addressing the question. You need to ensure that your argument, examples and sources should be relevant to the question and this should be clearly demonstrated in your essay. Irrelevant material and discussion of a question or questions not asked will be penalised.

2) Accuracy, grasp of relevant detail, and the use of sources, evidence and examples

Your essay should use sources, evidence and examples appropriately, and the essay must demonstrate that the sources are relevant and accurate. Therefore, you need to provide sources that are reliable, that relate to the question and of a high quality to support your argument. Your use of relevant sources and evidence must also demonstrate that you have understood the information accurately.

3) Research

Your essay should be well researched, utilising a range of quality sources and meet the required number of sources as outlined.

4) Original thought and critical thinking

You should strive to think things through for yourself and come up with original ideas if you can. Essays containing original ideas will generally receive some reward, depending on the quality. You should demonstrate the application of critical thinking to the ideas you encounter. This does not necessarily mean that you should disagree with them (you may or may not as you see fit). It means you should assess them, looking for their strengths and weaknesses.

5) Compliance with scholarly conventions including using own words

Using your own words demonstrates that you have accurately processed the ideas you are using rather than simply collecting the words and ideas of other scholars. In other words, using your own words helps to make the work your own and avoids issues of plagiarism, particularly the ‘cut and paste’ variety as long as you reference correctly.

You must comply with scholarly conventions. This means avoiding plagiarism, including the ‘cut and paste’ variety. It also means you should correctly cite your sources, both quotes and ideas of scholars, in footnotes or in-text referencing, in the bibliography or reference list, and use quotation marks where appropriate.

Essays that are poorly referenced or which in other ways are deficient in adhering to scholarly conventions will be penalised.

6) Structure and organisation

Your essay should be organised and structured so that it is easy to follow and efficient. It should not jump backwards and forwards between points or repeat itself unnecessarily. It should be put together so it assists in supporting your argument and have a clear introduction, body and conclusion. It should contain ‘signposts’ where appropriate so that the reader understands why you are dealing with things in the order you have chosen and can easily follow when you are moving from one point to another.

7) English expression, correct spelling and grammar

Your essay should be well written. The English expression should be clear, even elegant if you can manage it. It should be grammatically correct and without spelling and typographical errors. If you fail on this criterion you fail the essay.

NOTE

  • Make sure to use all 4 sources and you can use quotes not much though.
  • The referencing and quotes aren’t counted as part of the word count.
  • Be sure to do in text citations and the reference list.
  • Do not use anything else.

Add 150-250 words for this topic to the following text :

animals can produce the enzyme elongase and synthesize the long-chain fatty acids from precursors, through the catalyzation of the carbon chain (extension) in organic molecules, especially fatty acids. Whereas microalgae have the full potential to incorporate the full array of polyunsaturated fatty acids including EPA and DHA.

Although most microalgae can synthesize the polyunsaturated fatty acids, there exist large species variations, particularly in the actual production as well as storage in each species. There are specific factors, such as environmental conditions that induce the accumulation of lipids in the microorganisms and their localization in large algal cells (Morgan, 2009). What the process involves in cell partitioning is often related to the cultivation of culture and TAG content, which is usually high in nutrient-limited or stationary cell cultures.

Explain very short what lifestages in the following part :

“Consequently, the limited amount of fish oil in aquafeed has been dramatically reduced by the use of inexpensive ingredients, efficiently and strategically, during critical stages in the lifecycle” (Milledge & Heaven, 2011).

Write shortly about HOW the following strategy has been successful. Only need 20-50 words

“Furthermore, both marine components, the fish oil and fishmeal, have been increasingly substituted using alternative vegetable feeds over the last decade.

Whereas the strategy has been successful in managing fish oil supply” (Milledge & Heaven, 2011).

Use the remaining words to write a short part for the introduction about extraction of Omega-3 fatty acids and PUFAs

And please… edit or rewrite this in a way that makes sense… one of your writers wrote this for my paper, and it doesnt make any sense at all.

“Further, the analysis of the omega-3 fatty acids can be used to assist in the detection of the presence of adulterants, which is usually conducted through the use of sophisticated techniques. It is, therefore, necessary to establish reliable and straightforward methods to carry out quality assessment and authentication of nutritional omega 3 fatty acids rich products (Harris, 2012). The most fundamental factors that influence the analysis of the lipids in a wide variety of samples comprise of the extraction and isolation steps. These occur, as a result of the presence of different lipid classes that may call for the separation of other samples to fatty acid methyl ester compositional analysis through the use of gas chromatography or other viable techniques”
