Unfortunately, with elder’s there may be cognitive issues such as dementia or Alzheimer’s. Teaching points is to listen and believe the patient and what they are saying.
Teaching about signs of elder abuse, and what is normal with age and not. “Learn how the signs of elder abuse differ from the normal aging process” (CDC, 2021).
- Help find a support system for elders and continue to check in on them. “Check-in on older adults who may have few friends and family members” (CDC, 2021).
