Technology, Strategy and Innovation

QUESTION

From the following list, select ONE (1) concept in technology, strategy and innovation discussed in the course (through to Week 5):

1. Absorptive capacity

2. Innovation in small enterprises

3. Services design and innovation

4. Tacit knowledge

5. Technology strategy

Concisely define and explain your selected concept, who the concept is associated with or developed by, and how it contributes to the understanding and management of processes of enterprise innovation. Consider a contrasting or alternate concept and compare the relative merits of each, providing examples. What are the situations where your chosen concept is likely to be most useful in the successful management of innovation, and where might it have limitations or not be applicable?

Your answer should be about 1,000 words in length. You should not include more than one optional table or figure in your paper and you should reference sources in a standard bibliographic style. Exclude from your word count any title, course information, ID, table, figure, or bibliography. Include the word count at the end of your paper.

You should draw on relevant citations to readings and other materials, including those in the course reading list (available on Blackboard), the text (Tidd and Bessant), and from other external sources. You are encouraged to add value to what you have learned in the lectures and seminars through critical assessment and identifying well-chosen examples and counter-examples.
