The second individual assessment is a 4,500-word coursework assignment, in report format, which will require you to undertake a critical evaluation and analysis of your selected company’s Strategic Capability, and from this, determine two strategic options for further evaluation, and from this, one option for a review of implementation issues. Students can choose any organization, e.g. former and current place of work or from the literature – generally an organization of your choice.

Using appropriate analytical tools, critically evaluate the resource capability of your selected company highlighting the companies threshold and unique resources, and its core competencies. Critically review opportunities for achieving competitive advantage from value chains and networks, identifying appropriate strengths and weaknesses (maximum of thirty marks, 1,500 words – Learning Outcomes 1, 2, 4).

From the information gained from Assignment 1 and the strategic capability analysis review in this assignment, review the ‘strategic fit’ of your selected company (maximum of ten marks, 300 words – Learning Outcomes 4, 6).

From the strategic fit analysis, identify two strategic options available to your selected organization (maximum of twenty marks, 900 words – Learning Outcomes 5).

You will then apply appropriate theoretical models to evaluate the feasibility, acceptability, and suitability of each of the strategic options identified. This will enable you to choose and recommend which of the identified strategic options should be implemented (maximum of thirty marks, 1,500 words – Learning Outcomes 5, 6).

Finally, you are required to identify the implementation challenges associated for the chosen options, and explain how these challenges might be best addressed (maximum of ten marks, 300 words – Learning Outcomes 3, 4, 6).

The appropriate use of appendices will be required to support your analysis.
