Special Education Decision Making
The intern will be an official/unofficial member of at least two ARD meetings and have a discussion with a special education coordinator, director or department chair person regarding special education programs. An understanding of the District/Campus special education program and delivery will be accomplished. The intern will gain understanding of the associated leadership responsibilities in these processes.
Required Activities and Journal Entry
Write a short paper, two to three pages, not including the title page that will include the following information:
Interview questions and responses to a person responsible for delivering special education services to determine how services are delivered in the district and the role of the principal in providing those services.
Discuss in the journal how data is reviewed and used to improve the student achievement in the district and on the campus for special education students and what type of needs assessment for planning and improving student performance are done.
Become an official or unofficial ARD committee member and reflect on these meetings in your paper. Review the “This is how every IEP Meeting should start” statement (attached). How close to this model were the meetings you attended? Please make sure it is over an elementary school on Texas. I work in Spring Independent School District.
