Respond

The fundamental objective of public health must be to promote the health of all persons for the good of the entire population in a manner that promotes dignity and respect regardless of sex, gender, race, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. While this is a straightforward intention, public health often encounters significant ethical dilemmas that result primarily from complex conflicts intertwined in individual, political, and community interests. Due to the private nature of sexual behavior and the social stigma of certain sexual practices, ethical challenges remain in public health practice and attempts to address issues gender/domestic violence and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

1.What alternative ways of examining the ethics of STD prevention and control in both public health practice and in the delivery of health care

  1. How could public health leverage a holistic approach to include the human dimension to engage politicians, faith-based organizations, and community leaders in addressing the ethics of sexuality and gender issues in society?
