Order description:

Just about everything in special education is done in teams. To increase your effectiveness as an educator, it is important for you to understand the role you assume as a team member.

Using material introduced in Chapters 1–3 of your textbook as well as other course material, formulate a 3–5-page (excluding title page and references) description and philosophy about collaborative school consultation that reflects your approach, as follows:

Define how you go about participating in teams.

Describe how you currently provide or would provide consultation and receive it, particularly in relation to specially designed instruction and program organization and development for children and youth and families.

Discuss which collaboration models resonate with you.

Describe the ethical frameworks you use for decision making. Be sure to include information about your verbal, written, and body language communication styles in your self-evaluation.

Use your textbook readings on pages 64–67 and other resources to research the appropriateness of your approach.

Include 2–3 peer-reviewed articles from the Capella library as evidence to support your approach. Look at the relevance of teaching methodologies and apply them to your instructional and collaborative skills. How well do these methodologies apply to you?

Reflect on and identify what you need to learn to improve your approach.

After writing the first two parts of your self-study, engage in a dialogue with a colleague about your self-study. Incorporate your colleague’s feedback into your paper. Describe and analyze how the feedback informs your instructional practices, decisions, and/or interactions with colleagues, families, administrators, or paraeducators.
