Research Proposal on Affirmative Action
Paper details:
1. A “project narrative” that briefly explains your idea for the essay. Identify the topic you have selected from the textbook and articulate why you find it intellectually interesting and/or personally significant. Name which “moral theory” reading you hope to use to write about this topic, and why this choice makes sense to you. Write this narrative as a proper paragraph, with a topic sentence, clear internal development, and sentence transitions. 200-250 words.
2. Your research question. (See Little Seagull Handbook pgs. 91–92 for tips on drafting a research question.)
3. Your tentative thesis. (See Little Seagull Handbook pg. 92 for tips on drafting a tentative thesis.)
4. An annotated bibliography with two entries: one for a textbook reading on your topic from (Exploring Ethics, an Introductory Anthology 3rd or 4th edition) and one for a potential outside source (either a scholarly book from the LASC library, or an article found in the Opposing Viewpoints in Context database). Each bibliography entry should include two components: a) the citation for the source, in MLA format (i.e., the entry that would go on your Works Cited page for this source); and b) a brief summary of the source, identifying its key points and/or claims and reflecting on how you might use it to support your thesis. (See Little Seagull Handbook pgs. 74–78 for tips on writing an evaluative annotated bibliography.) 100-150 words (not counting the citation text).
