Due to present day advancements in education, leadership plays a significant role in determining the adaptation of changes for the benefit of an institution. Likewise, the same strategies are utilized in other disciplines and careers such as business. Leadership is a commitment to service to those that one overseas, and as such, it is heavily reliant on the ability of the leader to communicate with their subjects. Information should be relayed upward and downward the hierarchy with the same importance to facilitate effective delivery. However, research shows that many institutions are lacking in this vital aspect of leadership that functions knowledge management, decision-making, and strategic leadership.

According to the article, “Leadership Reflections” by Maggie Farell, the concept of knowledge management is paramount in an organization as it helps in the process of decision-making. It also infuses knowledge at all levels of the company. Farell (2017) defines knowledge management as the process through which knowledge and techniques of the decision are introduced throughout an organization. Knowledge management is a crucial aspect of leadership and ensures that the process of decision-making occurs based on research data and well-established communication structures that effectively inform employees who take part in making decisions. Knowledge management is essential as it keeps employees and the administration told of the new processes, methods, and information that arises due to the ever-changing technological world.  This idea is the whole purpose of leadership that enables the smooth running of affairs and better productivity in the workplace. Furthermore, organizations and schools in the present world are located in different regions. Therefore, communication structures need to be put in place to make knowledge sharing among employees easier.

In the second article, “Strategic leadership for schools” by John Mauriel (1989), strategic leadership requires that various leadership styles be executed. In the present ever-changing world, schools undergo continuous improvement to adapt to new processes and technology. To determine the manner in which teachers perceive change, an interview was carried out on a total of thirty candidates from the school administration. From the interview, it was found that school leaders need to develop various strategic leadership aspects to communicate new strategies and visions to their employees. According to Mauriel (1989), strategic leaders need to have a set of traits. For starters, they need to have a clear vision that defines the direction which the company or school should follow. The concept is used both to guide employees and to motivate them into working towards achieving the company goals. Second, strategic leaders are good listeners and capable of forming social connections within an organization thus subsequently encouraging information flow. They listen to the views and opinions of employees and determine from the information the course of action they should take. Such leaders also access the external environment of the school to understand the value of their services to society.

In summary, leadership is a sum of various traits which need to execute for the success of the organization. The fact that the environment keeps on changing in terms or of technology and economy means that the organizations have to keep on improving to adapt to these changes. Leaders, therefore, need to be aware of these fluctuations and determine how to effectively communicate with their colleagues on any adjustments as well as to acquire input for the best course of action. In this way, leadership is the vessel through which active communication is established.
