Persuasive Speech: (8 to 10 minutes) 150 points
The goal of a Persuasive Speech is to change the behavior or beliefs of your classmates. In the speech, you should present information on a topic that is new, and not reiterate the same arguments that have been presented by other people or the media. Oral footnotes need to include Who, What, and When information. Visual aids can be used. This speech is 8-10 minutes. Your main responsibility in a persuasive speech will be to use research in an ethical and appropriate manner in order to create an argument based on emotion, credibility, and logic that support your point of view.
1) Thesis/Specific Purpose Statements: You will identify the
specific rhetorical purpose of the speech. You will also write your thesis sentence, which is a single sentence identifying your main message for the speech. (25 points)
2) Introduction, Conclusion, and Main points: Following the guidelines from the book and from class lecture, you will develop an introduction, conclusion and main points for the speech. (25 points)
3) Annotated Bibliography: Identify 5 sources, cite them using APA and then give a brief description of what information you will use in the speech. (25 points)
4) Questionnaire Assignment: Persuasion is often focused on the audience, so in order to prepare your argument appropriately you will conduct an Audience Analysis survey of 5 questions related to your topic. You want to determine the beliefs, attitudes, and knowledge through these questions. Refer to Chapter 5 for this survey. You will upload the questions on Survey Monkey and take your classmates surveys. (25 points)
5) Outline: You must write a 1-2 page complete sentence outline. You must include your sources. Please follow APA format in order to cite your sources. Your sources will be identified in the body of the outline, in a “References Page” at the end of the outline and ALOUD throughout your speech. You will upload to Blackboard. Further details will be provided. (25 points)
