Order description:

This        assignment         has         three parts.

  • A Working Thesis Statement          (this       is             not         your       final       thesis    statement—don’t

worry    if             it             further evolves                over       the         course  of            the         assignment) using           the

guidelines           in the    lecture,                and        drawing                on Writing           Today’s discussion (391).              This

will         either    be           an           Argumentative Thesis or              an           Expository           Thesis.  Make    sure       this         is

clear      to            your       reader, using     the         phrases                “I             will         argue”  or            “I             will         explain”                if

necessary.

  • An Annotated Bibliography with             at            least      five academic sources.  Review the

discussion in       Writing Today (411-2) on              identifying          useful   sources.

This        document           is             among  the         most      flexible you’ve  written so           far          because it           is                intended             to

organize               your       own       research              rather   than       present                that        research              as            complete                paper.   For

this         reason  I               will         accept   point     form      as            well        as            full          sentences for    the         discussion,                though

you        must      be           clear      and        cover     all            the         necessary            information in   either    case.

I               expect  that        each      entry     will         be           around 100-200                words   and        cover     these    three                points:

  • Bibliographic information. Begin each      entry     by           citing     the         source  in            either    MLA       or

APA       format, depending          on           what      is             preferred            within   your       own       discipline.

  • Summary. Include a brief      outline  of            the         source’s               content,               whether              that        is

information,       argument,           or            both.

  • Commentary. How do you plan               to            use         this         source  in            your       research              paper?  How

does      it             support                your       thesis    or            expand on           your       discussion?
