Purpose:
Quite frankly it is impossible to know everything there is to know about Anatomy and Physiology. It is an extremely broad field and we each have our own particular interests within this field. Connect IT! Assignments are designed to allow each student the opportunity to explore from a group of disease topics given that help enhance learning in this online forum. You will then write an annotated (amended with notes, reactions, commentary) review so that you can think and write critically about the source material. In brief, the Connect IT! assignment will help you become more comfortable with the research process and investigation of the vast amount of information available to you within the field of Anatomy and Physiology.
Students must begin uploading of their Written Work no later than 11:54 PM CST of the due date according to the Course Syllabus. This will ensure that you have met the due day and time including any computer lag time.
Objectives:
•Locate three scholarly websites on one of the following topics:
Hashimoto’s, Addison’s Disease, Hyperandrogenism, SIADH, Diabetes Insipidus, Grave’s Disease, Meniere’s Disease, Wide-Angle Glaucoma, Cochlear Implants, Paranomia, Coartation of Aorta, Aortic Stenosis, Cardiac Tamponade, Pleural Effusions, SCID, Hemophillia, Sickle Cell, Thallasemia, Aplastic Anemia, Pernicious Anemia, Diverticulitis, Crohn’s Disease, Shingles, and Pheochromocytoma.
•Evaluate web source material for credibility and usefulness.
•Appropriate (take as your own) relevant information to build your knowledge base.
So, for each Connect IT! you will do the following:
Search the Internet and select three ACADEMIC website that pertains to either:
1.your select illness, disease, or medical condition OR
2.a scientific study that relates to the subject matter of that chapter. You should carefully evaluate the site for its appropriateness to the subject with regard to credibility and validity.
Write an ORIGINAL (cannot copy and paste the content from the website) paragraph that evaluates and reviews the content of the website. Your Word Count will be 500 words (excluding references and in-text citations) and include, but not limited to, the disease process, symptoms, diagnoses, trends in health care, possible genetics, morbidity and mortality, and cases studies. Be sure to identify and define terms or procedures that are specific to your topic. For example, provide how the disease is diagnosed, treated, new trends of medications, and symptoms/outcomes of this disease.
1.If you chose an illness then you should discuss, in your own words, the history, etiology, diagnosis, evaluation, treatment, and prognosis of the illness.
2.If you chose a scientific study then you should discuss, in your own words, the purpose of the study, how it was conducted and the findings of the study.
Next, contribute your own reaction(s) by writing a paragraph pointing out what you think is correct or incorrect, well explored or yet to be determined, accepted fact or ideas yet to be explored in the coverage of the topic. Discuss its impact on a particular demographic or the human population in general. Conclude your thoughts by commenting critically on the relevance of the website.
1.What is the purpose of the website?
2.Is the website relevant and credible?
3.Who is the target audience?
4.Comment on the web design; is it engaging, informative, creative? How is the content presented: written, pictures, video, interactive?
Include your source as a MLA citation (I recommend using: www.easybib.com (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. ) Students MUST provide in-text citation to show which parts of the work is coming from which source.
Lastly, you will post this assignment as an upload in any one of the following formats: pptx, .docx, .pdf, .txt, .rtf, .ppt, and .doc. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure the correct format. The assignment is attached to VeriCite which will compute your work’s originality score. Be mindful that if your score returns as a yellow or red colored value, an automatic zero will be assigned for this work without exception. You may resubmit a second time with your corrected work before the due date and time listed on the Course Schedule.
