After meeting with teacher and get general approval on topic of study, write or videotape a proposal for final approval: To do a proposal, with goal of final product, include: Identify the main goals of your study.

  • What are you interested in studying?

study how students learn ASL by participating in lab work.

o Specify how the topic applies to ASL. § i.e. survival ASL skills for different fields, pedagogy, lab work, captioning services, etc.

  • How do you plan to study such topic ?

lab work;  help the students understand ASL as well as observing the hearing students communicate using sign language.

o Specify mediums, methods you plan to utilize. § i.e. meetings with Deaf within fields, observations, media researches, etc.

  • What kind of final product do you envision?

helping the students learn sign language, learning how students in the classroom learn sign.

activity/game product, observations, etc.

  • What do you hope to achieve with this course?

use of sign language in the hearing community, why they learn and what they use it for. publish this in the academic journal. This will spread awareness and hopefully allow others to see the benefits of ASL.
