Global Supply Chain Management

       Assignment 1:

A modern supply chain is a dynamic network of great complexity. Thus, organisations should strive for developing supply chain strategies, configuring supply chains to maximise performance and coping with technological changes.

Based on the above statement, you are asked to choose a sector/industry (e.g., food, technology, healthcare, retail, services, automotive), and critically discuss:

  • What is the design and implementation of supply chain strategies within the chosen sector from the selected industry. (Select a sector/industry eg manufacturing from a company but not the whole company eg Coca Cola). Create an overview process flow diagram to show the various steps involved.

You should support your arguments by bringing into the discussion at least 2 examples of companies that belong to the selected sector/industry. Critically analyse how the different supply chain strategies in the 3 companies contribute the successful implementation of design of supply chain.

  • How do the organisations configure their supply chains through collaboration, lean principles and agility .  Identify and analyse examples of ways in which companies in your chosen industry collaborate with each other to develop lean or agile approaches. Your analysis might involve different companies than your earlier answer, but the industry or sector must be unchanged.

  • How advanced technology (e.g., big data analytics, Internet of Things, cloud computing) are utilised by companies within the sector to maintain their competitive advantage. Provide a critical review of company sources (e.g. presentations to shareholders, annual reports) as well as peer reviewed sources. You should support your arguments by bringing into the discussion at least 2 examples of companies that belong to the selected sector/industry. Critically analyse how the different approach and utilization of advanced technology have maintained their competitive advantage.
