Final Paper Guidelines

The primary goal of this paper is to thoroughly overview a topic related to forensic psychology that was covered in the textbook. In order to achieve this goal, students should aim to trace the historical roots of the topic, as well as modern applications, within both the field and academic literature. Final papers should include an in-depth literature review of academic articles related to the assessment of the topic you select. In addition, students should review at least one real world case that encompasses the forensic psychology aspect you selected. Essentially, this paper will incorporate two primary components, overviewed in detail below:

Part 1:

Status of the topic within the academic literature

  • At least 25 academic articles are required in your literature review –articles must be obtained from peer reviewed academic journals
  • Trace the historical roots of the topic as well as modern applications
  • What factors shape the successfulness of this forensic psychology aspect?
  • How has the topic been improved upon in recent years?
  • Assessment of the strength and limitations of the topic according to prior research
  • What are the future directions of this topic? What will/can strengthen it in the future?
  • How has it impacted the field of psychology and criminal justice?
  • What are the policy implications related to your topic?

Part 2:

Real world case that encompasses the topic you selected

  • Briefly review the relevant aspects of the case (1 page maximum)
  • How was the aspect you selected applied to the case?
  • How did the topic you selected impact the case?
  • What was the outcome of the case?
  • Is this a positive or negative example of the case you selected? Why/how?
  • Considering the case at hand, how can the field of forensic psychology improve upon the aspect your selected?

  • APA format
  • 10 page minimum, double spaced
