Procure and read the modern fantasy novel, The Graveyard Book, by Neil Gaiman. This book is available in all libraries, online as an eBook from many websites, or at most bookstores.
Write a 1,000- to 1,200-word essay in which you do the following:
ï‚· Evaluate the character development in the protagonist, and how s/he develops. Do not summarize the story (e.g. follow the character’s actions) but analyze the trajectory of the growth/change of the protagonist.
ï‚· Examine how the author uses literary elements below in order to create an effective and creative fantasy.
o Setting/world of the fantasy
o Fantastical Creatures
o Original, œimpossible elements (objects, time travel, abilities, etc.)
ï‚· Examine some of the means by which the author has made his or her fantasy believable (detail, restraint, consistency, connection with reality and human nature)
ï‚· Explain what this story would look like had the writer chosen to use realistic fiction rather than fantasy. Include how the story would need to changein setting, characters, plot devices, and so on. Be specific and detailed in your explanation of the changes (and be creativebut real!).
Include direct textual support (i.e. actual content from the novel) to exemplify and validate your ideas and points.
