D. This Capstone Project must include an analysis and synthesis of recent,
scholarly, peer-reviewed journal articles in order to validate the usefulness
of the project to facilitate evidence-based change that meets an identified
need. This need can “NOT” be a change that is currently taking place inyour
facility. Words in red indicate to have minimal directquoting!
Please seek the articles through our University Library, using a wide
database search. Our Distance Learning service in the University Library also
includes the ability to do a Google Scholar search. Articles should mostly be
published within the United States. Be sure to include mostly nursing articles.
(It is acceptable to use other discipline’s articles to ensure a collaborative
effort between the disciplines however; nursing should be the majority of the
articles.) Recall from earlier classes, articles from magazines and non-peerreviewed journals are NOT acceptable sources ofinformation.
E. The written paper should include data from A, B, C, and D above. The total
length should fall between 5-7 pages not including the title page, abstract,
and reference list. The paper must strictly adhere to APA format in all
elements.
The paper should stress that use of email, text message notifications, and use of surgical center website will increase patient compliance in knowing what medications to continue to take, which ones to stop, importance of maintaining NPO status and what to expect the day of surgery, as opposed to just making a phone call and giving verbal instructions.
The student will select one of three evidence-based nursing practice model
as the foundation for the Capstone Project (CURN, Stetler, or IOWA). All
elements of the model must be addressed, as indicated. The elements will be
used as headings within the written paper submission to ensure they are
used to structure theproject
Conduct and Utilization of Research in Nursing (CURN)
(The areas in red are the headings that should be in your Capstone Narrative Paper)
Model Steps
Introduction -> is required by Capstone (should be broad and general, is “not” a heading)
1. Systematic Problem Identification
Explain the problem identified in your facility. Explain the current process.
What is the background of the problem & how it is important? Does the problem affect a certain patient population?
Why / how was it chosen? (quality data, PICOT, observation, discussion with manager, national initiative, clinical experience, personal interest, a single facility event, etc.)
2. Assessment of Researching the Existing Knowledge-base
Literature Critique / Review.
What data bases were used?
Is there clinical significance?
Was some of the literature not usable?
Discuss the strengths & weakness of literature used.
What does the evidence mean?
3. Adaptation of Existing Practice (or Design of New Intervention)
Whichever applies to your proposal.
Synthesize all usable literature.
Make recommendations for us
Your proposed “resolution.
4. Conduct a Clinical Trial and Evaluation
Determine a plan to implement.
Measure the current problem outcomes.
Determine a plan to measure the new outcomes.
5. Decision: Adoption, Modification, Rejection
Plan to present findings to leadership.
Do you anticipate any constraints to adoption?
Do you foresee possible modifications? (such as?)
6. Plan for diffusion of Innovation to other Areas
If adopted or modified, determine if it is usable in other departments?
If adopted or modified, determine how you will share your findings with others?
7. Mechanisms for Maintenance of Innovations over Time (making changes permanent) What can be done to assure the practice remains in place and functional?
8. Evaluation and Dissemination Plan
How will you share your evaluated outcomes with others?
9. Summary / Conclusion
