Farewell to Manzanar is essentially a memoir which was written and later published in the year 1973 by Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston and James D. Houston. The book tells of the life experiences of Jeanne Wakatsuki and her family before and during the subsequent imprisonment at the Manzanar concentration camp which was established by the United States government because of its internment of all Japanese Americans during the World War 2. The book was subsequently after publication was developed into a movie in the year 1976. Essentially the book focuses on the theme of discrimination which was tantamount to segregation based on racial classification of the citizens.
