Proposing a Solution (From Chapter 10 of the Bedford Guide)

Write an essay that first carefully analyzes and explains a specific social, economic, political, civic, or environmental problem that you care strongly about and wish to see resolved. Show your readers that this problem really exists and that it matters to you and to them. Second, propose one or more ways to solve the problem or at least alleviate it. You need to supply evidence that your solution is reasonable and that it can work. Include any obstacles or difficulties that may need to be overcome. Show why your solution is more workable than other proposed solutions. Your purpose is to convince your readers that something can and should be done about the problem.
