Theater and Concept: An artwork generates ideas in the minds of the audience, based on description, context, and participation. Think of the “concept” as the “big idea” that the performance generates in you. What is one idea that the play “Beauty and the Beast” generates in your mind? Please note that this journal is not a plot summary; no more than 2-3 sentences should be about the plot. This is also not a review of the play or the production. Focus on ONE big idea (not several ideas). You might cite some scenes from the play, but always link them to the big idea. Take notes right after the performance (in the program?), but think about it overnight in order to find what stays with you—what ideas change and develop. Talking to friends about the performance helps. This will provide notes for the journal.
