Gamescorp in China
In the tutorial on global staffing you became acquainted with the company Gamescorp plc, a fast-growing UK-based chain of computer software stores which specialises in
the sale of discounted computer games and related products.
Shops are now open in Paris, Berlin and Milan and have now been trading successfully for three years. Now, as planned, Gamescorp aims to move into other regions of the
world, and plans to open outlets in China.
As before, the new stores will be very similar to those already existing in the UK. They will carry the same broad range of stock and will be laid out and decorated in
the established corporate style. Importantly, as is the case in the UK stores, the intention is that they will be staffed by knowledgeable enthusiasts who combine
commitment to high standards of customer service with effective selling skills. Although local managers will be permitted some flexibility in terms of the number and
status of their employees, the strong corporate identity already developed will be maintained wherever a store is opened.
The company has approached you, as an experienced HR consultant, to advise them about the key HRM considerations for establishing their business in China. Your report
should address the following key areas and make clear the reasons for your recommendations:
• What are the key cultural differences between China and Europe and what significance will these have for the HRM approach?
• Should the orientation of the organisation be ethnocentric, polycentric or geocentric?
• What policies and practices would you recommend for the recruitment and selection of local staff?
This case study assignment should be undertaken as an individual assignment.
As this is an academic piece of work you must support your analysis, arguments and recommendations by referencing to published material (this may be from research
journals, texts or other media.) Harvard referencing format is preferred.
Assignments should be in report format (i.e. with contents page, sections and subsections, a clear introduction and conclusion, comprehensive referencing and
bibliography). Answers must be word processed.
Word length should be approximately 3,000 words. This does not include appendices that may be used for illustrative or supporting material. However, these should be
used with discretion, not as a convenient dump when over the word limit. Please provide a word count on the assignment. Assignments exceeding the word limit by more
than 10% will be capped at P1.

3. Double or 1.5 line space the work
4. Stick to usual script-Times New Roman or Arial are most commonly used
5. Write in full paragraphs
6. For essays avoid ‘lists’ of points- you should be discussing in sentences
7. Do not use abbreviations (e.g:& don’t) in a formal essay
8. You can use sub-headings in essays and report-but not too many in essays
9. Try to avoid first person for assignment (I or we)
10. Using Harvard Referencing style for citation
11. Provide bibliographic references
