Overview:
Uses a reciprocal engagement strategy with industry, whereby course materials have been designed to address specific clinical leadership and management issues drawn from practice.

By undertaking this course students will advance their knowledge of leadership theories, concepts, and techniques to produce positive and innovative organisational outcomes, meet organisational goals and objectives, and support research and collaborative experiences, which attend to national health reforms and industry needs.

The course focuses on such topics as contemporary leadership roles, strategic vision and planning, interpretation of clinical data and ethical leadership in health care, in addition health management concepts and practices are applied. Students will participate in authentic learning and assessment activities, giving them the opportunity to apply their gained knowledge and skills in a professional healthcare setting.

The course encompasses a coursework and a research component leading to the submission of a thesis. The coursework comprises four compulsory units to be completed as a prerequisite to the student’s individual research project. The thesis unit develops the student’s personal competencies in critical analysis and scholarly writing relevant to their clinical area.

Clinical Leadership for Paramedics

Leadership is a vital part of delivering high quality healthcare for all healthcare professionals. With the introduction of the NHS Leadership Academy, Leadership Framework and the Competency Framework there has never been a better time for paramedics to hone their leadership skills and expertise

This is Research of its kind to demonstrate just how vital leadership skills are for all paramedics and explore how paramedics can lead in their everyday practice.

Divided into two parts the Research looks at both the context of contemporary leadership for paramedic practice and then the specific skills of leadership. The research includes chapters on:

• Mentorship and preceptorship.
Each chapter includes case studies, examples and quotes from real life paramedic practice to show what good leadership looks like in everyday clinical settings. The research also features profiles of real paramedics that demonstrate the role that leadership plays for all practitioners from novice student paramedics through to specialist paramedic practitioners
