A 1500 word report giving your individual analysis of the group topic (must be all individually written and checked for plagiarism, but may be informed by the results of your collective group discussions and research). Must be written in full prose and fully referenced.
Will be graded individually according to the rubric in the syllabus and guidelines given here.
Research, relevance and adequacy of information: All projects must show evidence (see rubric) of serious research that covers and gives adequate coverage of the information required for a full briefing in both the presentation and report, covering the obvious key issues and providing support to any claims made in the analysis. Information that is not relevant to the subject is both useless and distracting, or absence of information that an audience would need to judge your analysis or is important to the topic creates shows a lack of thought.
Quality of Analysis: All will be judged on the logical coherence, intelligence and depth of the analysis and any argument proposed. You should show awareness of alternative views and arguments against your own analysis (and give good reasons for choosing one rather than another analysis). Pay particular attention to the need to both explain and support—with reasons and evidence—all important analytical claims you are making.
Communication skills: Presentation/slides and the written report will be judged on how well structured clear and polished they are. Verbal presentation and (even more so) a written report, must be clear—so listeners and readers do not have to struggle to guess your meaning. For the writing, you should to put your prose through a grammar and spell checker.
The issue must concern an aspect of the world economy—ideally it will have an international dimension, but a study of a national economy—its problems or strategy or the peculiarities of its ‘national model’ are OK. But do not give a mere ’country briefing’ (a bunch of facts about this or that economy). There has to be a particular issue you focus on and provides an explanatory or analytical question. It might be a strategy, a problem or development that gives your research an ‘angle’.
