Tasks to be undertaken:

 

You are required to explore the ICT topic you have been given and construct a teacher’s pack, aimed at second year of A Levels, which explains the technology or concept, challenges the student to investigate how it works, and explores the benefit and the social and ethical issues. The teacher’s pack will be structured in four parts: an introductory article, an annotated bibliography which points teachers and students to resources, both written and multimedia, a lesson plan for a double lesson and a sample examination question with suggested answer.

 

Process.

 

Research the technology or concept, identify how it works; identify the environment – social and technical – in which it will be used. Define the main concepts behind the technology. Identify the benefits it offers to individuals and society. Point out the social and ethical issues associated with the technology.

 

Make sure you consider the validity of your sources and select your sources carefully to add to the teacher and students’ understanding of the subject. Create your own portfolio of sources. For each source, write your own annotated description or précis of what the source says about the technology.

 

Deliverables.

 

There are four parts to the teacher’s pack.

 

  1. An introductory article of up to four sides or 1000 words. This article should define the subject area, give examples of the technology working, explain how the technology works, explain its benefits, suggest how it might affect our future, explain how it might affect how individuals live and identify the social and ethical issues associated with the technology. The article should be well laid out, well-illustrated, and readable. Pay attention to style and consider whether you are expressing you main concepts well.

 

  1. A Resources List for teachers and students. The resources list will be primarily a list of web resources which may be videos, audio and pictures as well as text. You may reference books as well. Each entry should be annotated with a description of what it contains, why it is useful and what the authority of the source is. This should contain between 10 and 20 sources.

 

  1. A lesson plan. The lesson plan tabulates activities, times, student activity and resources (see example below). It should cover one double lesson of about 80 minutes.

  1. An examination question with a model answer. A question which attracts a total of 20 marks should be written. This may be split down into sections – a maximum of four sections – which should cover all material in the lesson including the concept of the technology and the social and ethical issues. The model answer should indicate how marks will be allocated.

The teacher’s resource pack should contain an introductory article of up to 1000 words, a resource list of two pages of up to 20 annotated sources, a lesson plan for an 80 minute double lesson and an examination question of 20 marks with a model answer
