Matching the task to the learner’s ability level.
The source you provided is called Teamwork: Celebrating Learning Together from the book œLearning to Listen. This chapter deals specifically with the development of a national literacy program in post civil war Zimbabwe. Based on this chapter here are some thoughts regarding the importance of matching tasks to the ability level of the group.
Every educator starts with a desire to see his/her students reach a certain goal. In this case the goal was to establish a national literacy program. As we all know, every journey begins with the first step. For the educator this first step is evaluating what his students know and what they are capable of doing. The first is much easier to assess than the second but both are possible.
