Letter to the editor

You are to write a œletter to the editor, maximum 150 words. NOTE: The title of your œsubmission must be identical to the one used for the essay you submitted for part II of this assignment. This is your letter to the editor. You should review several letters-to-the-editor online or in your local newspaper. You may see examples here: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/commentary/letters/.

NOTE: If you decide to actually submit your letter to an actual newspaper and it gets published, you will get bonus points for this assignment, up to and including the maximum value of the assignment (20 marks). Bonus marks are at my discretion, based on the quality of where the letter is published; i.e., in which newspaper or magazine. Material that is only printed online is not accepted for bonus points. (You must submit proof of publication by the end of December. Extensions will be granted if you have formal notification that the letter will appear after this date, but you will still need to submit proof of publication to receive your bonus.) At a minimum, you will receive 100 percent for the letter-to-the editor part of the assignment. Additional bonus points may be awarded up to 3 marks, at my discretion.

Format: Your essay should be printed in Times New Roman, single-spaced, 11-point font. Please use the following format:

[line 1, left justified]        SMITH, Jane  (146 words)

[line 3, centred]            Title

[line 5, left justified]        begin letter to the editor

In addition to these format instructions, note this is a letter. You need to format your submission as a letter.
