The Mayor warned that it would be “economic folly” to prevent major
foreign investors pouring money into housing, transport and utilities and
that he had “no qualms” about them doing so.
The Chancellor said Chinese investment in “critical” infrastructure was
“not a threat but a great opportunity” and that the Government would
“positively welcome” it.
In their only joint appearance while on separate trade missions to China,
the two men addressed head on fears that Britain could be putting itself
at risk by relying so much on foreign money.
