Canada’s Indigenous Adolescent Offenders, Disadvantage, and Risk Factors/Need

Canada’s Indigenous Adolescent Offenders, Disadvantage, and Risk Factors/Need

Paper detalis:

Students will prepare a 10-12 page, critical literature review paper (double-spaced, APA style) based on CANADA’s INDIGENOUS ADOLESCENT Offenders, the disadvantages that they face(d) (e.g., socioeconomic, cultural, etc), and how this puts them at an increased risk of offending). Students are expected to provide an in-depth, synthesis of their respective topics. The literature review will describe the existing literature, identify gaps in the existing literature, identify and if possible, resolve seemingly contradictory points of view and recommend directions for future research (see guiding framework below). The paper is worth 40% of your final grade.
These are the questions that should be covered in your paper:
a) Have you introduced the topic and established why it is important? (e.g., what is the scope and magnitude of the problem, how many Canadians affected?, why do we care?)
b) Do you provide a brief outline of what the paper will cover along with your thesis statement (if applicable)
c) Does your literature review contain recent as well as key references in the area (last 10 years)?
d) Do you contextual the paper, give a historical overview (e.g., the first time this topic was discussed in a scholarly context was….since then # papers have been written about the subject from a variety of perspectives).
e) Is the literature review comprehensive yet focused (are relevant theories discussed, are relevant empirical studies reviewed, are there at least 15 different references unless clearly established that few papers have addressed the subject at hand)
f) Are the statements you are making supported by credible references (journal articles, books, government reports)?
g) Have you provided a critical analytic synthesis of the literature? (i.e., have you identified the ‘for sure conclusions’, ‘the mixed/inconsistent evidence’, as well as the ‘literature hasn’t examined this specific question yet’. In regards to the ‘mixed area’ have you attempted to explain why the results have been inconsistent—e.g., don’t know, different operational definitions used, methodological problems etc)? This is the ‘connection’ part of the paper that forms the nexus of the paper.
h) Has the gap in the literature been clearly described based on critical analytic synthesis? (e.g., no Canadian studies, past research methodologically flawed and/or a theoretical, results need to be replicated, certain populations haven’t been studied –e.g., women!).
